Simply enter the student’s age and how often you’d like to contribute to discover how we can help you reach your education savings goals.

Step 1: Let’s estimate the total cost of a Canadian university education

Step 2: Customize your savings by choosing up to 3 CST Spark accounts.

This illustration shows how much your CST Spark Accounts may be worth when your child is 18.5 years and compares this amount to the estimated cost of a university education at that time. The projected value includes contributions, government grant (CESG) , income on principal and grant earned to date, future scheduled contributions (if any) until your child turns 18.5 years and government grants you are expected to accumulate.

1 The amounts shown are projections only. Actual savings may vary and are not guaranteed.

2 If you live in Quebec or British Columbia, you could also qualify for additional provincial grants. Additional CESG is not included in the total shown.

3 For illustrative purposes, the calculator assumes scheduled contributions will be made and there is identical investments across all CST Spark accounts. In practice, customers may select different funds for each account upon opening.

4 The returns shown are based on assumptions and are for illustrative purposes only.   For the RESP - the projected income on principal and grants is estimated from today’s date to the date when your child turns 18.5 based on a series of annual net rates of return ranging from 2.5% to 4.5% that reflect your child’s age group and the changes in the asset allocation over the life of your plan. For the TFSA and Investment accounts the calculation are based on the same assumptions, as the RESP but without grants and income from grants.  Past performance is not indicative of future results. Actual investment outcomes may vary.

5 The cost estimates provided are for illustrative purposes only. They are based on a Canadian citizen or resident beginning undergraduate studies at age 18.5. These estimates exclude expenses related to car ownership and dependents (e.g., children). Actual costs may vary depending on the institution, program, location, and personal circumstances. The estimates are derived from data across ten Canadian universities to reflect a representative range of undergraduate education expenses nationwide. Tuition for a four-year program is projected using the average tuition and mandatory fees from the previous academic year, assuming an annual increase of 2.7%, consistent with the five-year average. Housing assumptions: one year on-campus residence with a standard room and meal plan. Years 2–4 off-campus shared housing with three roommates, with rent and utilities split equally. Accommodation costs are projected to rise by 3.6% annually, based on the previous year’s average. Additional expenses for entertainment, transportation, and books are adjusted using a 2.5% annual inflation rate. Sources: University websites, university off-campus housing guides, CMHC rental reports (2024), and student forums, adjusted for 2025 trends.
