The Basic Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) is available to all eligible Canadian children with an RESP. The federal government matches 20% of your annual contributions, up to $500 per year, with a lifetime maximum of $7,200 per child.

Families with lower or middle incomes may also qualify for the Additional CESG, which adds 10% or 20% more on the first $500 contributed each year. That means an extra $50 to $100 annually, depending on your income.

In Quebec, there’s a similar program called the Québec Education Savings Incentive (QESI). The Basic QESI provides 10% of annual RESP contributions, up to $250 per year, with a lifetime maximum of $3,600. Like the CESG, there’s also an Additional QESI for low- and middle-income families, offering 5% or 10% more on the first $500 contributed—so up to $25 or $50 extra per year, depending on income.
