Children living in British Columbia who have an RESP can now benefit from a one-time payment of $1,200 through the BCTESG.
Who is eligible?
All children residing in BC between the ages of 6 and 9 are eligible to receive the grant if the following criteria are met:
· The child has an RESP account with a participating financial institution such as CST
· The child was born in 2006 or later
· The child and parent/legal guardian must be residents of British Columbia at the time of the application (proof of residency required)
What can I use for proof of residency?
- The parent/legal guardian must show one of the following:
- Valid BC driver’s licence;
- BC Identification Card with a picture (BCID);
- BC Services Card; or
- BC utilities bill dated within the last 3 months and with the current address of the parent/legal guardian (electricity, gas, phone, cable, water or garbage bill)
Note: If you are not the custodial parent/legal guardian you will be required to obtain this information from one custodial parent/legal guardian who is a resident of BC, as well as their signature on the application form.
When can I apply?
The earliest you can request the Grant is when your beneficiary turns 6, after that you may apply anytime before their 9th birthday. Please refer to the table below for exact dates.
