Choosing where to study
You can use our plans almost anywhere.
The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation recognizes institutions that range from community colleges and universities to vocational, technical, trade and religious schools, and we’re evaluating new schools and programs all the time.
Distance learning and correspondence courses are eligible too!
Group Savings Plan
If you’re saving with our group plan, your student must be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary program that qualifies under the Income Tax Act (Canada).
For Canadian schools, it has to be a program that’s at least three weeks long and
at least 10 hours a week.
Outside of Canada, you have to study for at least 10 hours a week for a minimum of
13 weeks.
Individual or Family Savings Plan
With our self-determined plans, part-time programs qualify too!
Programs have to be at least three weeks long in Canada, or 13 weeks long outside
of Canada. Students must study at least 12 hours each month.
Contributors choose the timing and amount of education assistance payments in our self-determined plans, so there is no minimum number of years of eligible study.
What's a qualified school?As with all RESPs, the post-secondary school and program you choose must be a "qualified" school as defined by the Income Tax Act (Canada). Eligible schools are ones that:
