BC parents: BC Training and Education Savings Grant (BCTESG)

As the pioneers of education savings plans in Canada, CST advocated on behalf of its planholders and B.C. families to create an RESP grant in the province.

Here are some of the details of the B.C. grant:

Starting in 2015, the B.C. government will deposit a one-time $1,200 grant into the RESPs of eligible children. Parents are not required to match or make additional contributions to their RESP to receive this grant.

The basic criteria to apply for the grant are:

  • The child must be born on or after January 1, 2006.
  • The child must have an RESP in place.
  • The parent and child must be a resident of B.C. when the grant application is made.
  • The child must be enrolled in an education program.
  • Parents/contributors have from the day the child turns 6 until the day before the child’s ninth birthday to apply for the BCTESG.
