Alberta’s education savings grant is being phased out

Alberta Centennial Education Savings Program (ACES)

As part of its 2013 budget the Alberta government has announced it will be phasing out the ACES program. All Albertans who have an RESP and are currently enrolled in the ACES program will continue to receive grant in their child's RESP.

With the ACES program families in Alberta are eligible to receive $500 when they first open an RESP for their child, then $100 more when the child turns 8, 11 and 14 years old.

You qualify for ACES if:

  • your child was born after December 31, 2004
  • your child is enrolled in a school in Alberta (each time you’re eligible for a grant), and
  • you contributed at least $100 to your child’s RESP the year before.

The final date to apply for the grant has not been determined, until then we encourage families to open an RESP and apply for the $500 grant. CST is extremely disappointed by the government’s decision to phase-out the program. Please read our letter that was published in the Edmonton Journal on March 18, 2013.
